Photographed by FRONTEX (2017)

A series of photographs made Inside Moria Camp, Lesvos, Greece, by FRONTEX (the European Border and Coast Guard, supports Member States with screening, debriefing, identification and fingerprinting of migrants.) and the Greek authority as part of the registration process of Non-EU citizens entering the European Union.

‘They didn’t have a special room for taking a photo but they had a camera, they just said ‘stand here by the wall’. I don’t remember the person who took the photo. I remember I was really happy that my family and I finally arrived in Europe and we are all safe. I just laughed when I saw the photo on my paper because I was wondering how they recognised that I am in the photo when they did not take a clear photo and they never doubted.’ - Sakineh Hashemi
